January 2009 Dentist Licensure Examination Result

A total of 296 out of 708 passed the Dentist Licensure Examination given this month by the Board of Dentistry, the Professional Regulation Commission announced Thursday.

Cecille Mae Uy Deomano of the University of the East-Manila topped the board exam with a score of 83.99 percent.

The successful examinees will take their oath January 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the Manila Hotel in Manila.

The newly crowned Miss Dinagyang 2009 was a British-Filipina, Natalie Grace Roberts, 17-years-old that stands 5 feet 7 inches, a B.S. Psychology freshmen student of Central Philippine University.

Yes, another student from Central Philippine University bagged the crown for this year Miss Dinagyang 2009.

Natalie Grace Roberts won the other minor awards for Best in Swimsuit, Best in Paper Gown, Best in Interview and Best in Tourism Advocacy Project.

As a crown holder of Miss Dinagyang, she will be the Iloilo City's Ambassadress of Goodwill. She will also represent the city in various social functions and represent the Dinagyang Festival at the National Aliwan Festival in Metro Manila.

Together with her last coronation night was 1st runner-up Stephanie Juanitas of University of Iloilo, 2nd runner-up Marie June Bebing of University of San Agustin, 3rd runner-up Sheryl Maye Manalo Central Philippine Universit and 4th runner-up Ruby Claire Lopez.

For Best in Gown, Best Dinagyang-Inspired Costume, Most Photogenic and Telegenic was awarded to Stephanie Juanitas of University of Iloilo. Then the Darling of the Press was Geline Antoinette Cabrera while Rapunzel Crystal Palma was Miss Congeniality.

One of highlights of Miss Dinagyang pageant was the newspaper gown competition. Whereas candidates showcased gowns made of recycled paper and embellished with indigenous materials. Organizers said this segment of the show was a tribute to the Iloilo City government’s "go green" environment program.

Nurses wanted in Japan

Good news for Filipinos, the Government of Japan starts recruiting Filipino nurses and caregivers. The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the Japan International Corporation of Welfare Services (JICWELS) agreed to recruit Filipino nurses as candidate-kangoshi and caregivers as candidate-kaigofukushishi to Japan.

Initial recruitment of about 200 Filipino nurses and 300 caregivers that the POEA would endorse to JICWELS, which would in turn match to hospitals and institutions in Japan that it earlier pre-qualified to receive the Filipino candidates.

Nurses and caregivers that will hires shall be covered by a fully transparent employment contract…They shall receive the same salaries equivalent to what Japanese nurses and caregivers receive, based on similar tasks and qualifications.

For Selected candidates shall undergo a six-month language and culture training, where they would receive an allowance of not less than 40,000 yen (or about P21,000) a month.
