Watch 2009 Video Music Awards live online, 2009 Video Music Awards will be held on September 13 in New York City at Radio City Music Hall, will be hosted by Russell Brand, and will include performances by Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Green Day, P!nk, Muse, and Britney Spears.
The VMAs has been a generational pop-cultural annual award show that gathers the most popular bands and artists each year, but also brings iconic acts to the show. For years, the show was noteworthy for its live crazy moments (some cut for the re-runs); it quickly gained popularity because of them, rather than the awards given. Also, part of the show's popularity was based on the performances given; sometimes it would bring together different artists/bands to be featured in one significant final performance, and at times it would even reunite bands or bring back retired artists to perform again.
The show starts with a pre-show that can last from 1 to 2 hours (in which a few small awards are given). That is followed by the main show which lasts up to three hours, and then the post-show; however, in recent years, the VMAs have cut the main show down to 2 hours due to many changes.
